Windrush Day Celebration

Dear friends and supporters,

On behalf of the Walsall Community Association, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended our Windrush Day Celebration on Saturday 24th June. It was great day filled with joy, culture, music, speeches and an amazing atmosphere.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the attendees who joined us in celebrating the legacy of the Windrush Generation. Your presence & engagement made this event truly special. Together we continue to honour & remember the contributions of the Windrush Generation.

A special thank you to Maxie Hayles, who shared his personal experiences as a proud member of the Windrush Generation. He truly captivated us with his heartfelt words, shining a light on the challenges and triumphs faced by the Windrush Generation. His story reminded us of the resilience, strength, and invaluable contributions made by individuals of African-Caribbean heritage.

Face Painting in the Community Garden

Throughout the day we had some incredible activities that many enjoyed. The bouncy castle brought laughter and fun for the children, while the face painting booth added a lovely touch of creativity and colour to the day.

The authentic Caribbean Cuisine and the awesome Steel Band provided a captivating experience. And let’s not forget the dominoes games that were enjoyed by so many on the day.

The Steel Band providing a great musical atmosphere

We would like to thank our resident DJ Hartley for providing an outstanding musical backdrop that entertained everyone throughout the day. Thanks must also go out to the hard working kitchen staff whose Caribbean Cuisine buffet was enjoyed by over 500 people, and to all the volunteers who helped to make the day such a success.

The wonderful Kitchen Staff preparing the Caribbean Buffet

The success of the Windrush Day Celebration would not have been possible without the continuous support and participation of our wonderful community. We are genuinely grateful for each and every one of you. Your presence and involvement make a significant difference in the work we do, and we sincerely appreciate it.
